Patriot win streak at 5 games after defeating Trojans 38-14
Friday October 23, 2009

The Fort turned the ball over twice in the red zone and allowed a James Island touchdown drive in the first quarter to give the Trojans the early lead. The Patriots answered with a drive of their own, but stalled on the James Island 11 yard line and had to settle for a Josh Hall field goal with 7:54 left in the half. Hall kicked the ensuing kickoff into the endzone for a touchback, and after a 3 and out series by the Trojans, the Fort ended up with the ball at mid field. Three plays later, the Fort took a 10-7 lead when Keshon Flores scored on a 10 yard run, which was set up by a 31 yard Michael Sellers scamper on the previous play. After another touchback on the kick, James Island managed to get across midfield to the Fort Dorchester 41 before punting down to the 4 yard line. With 96 yards to go and only 1:34 left in the half, the Patriot offense went back to work. Ethan long completed 4 of 5 passes for 77 yards and Michael Sellers added another 19 yards on 3 carries, including a 7 yard run for the touchdown. The 8 play, 96 yard scoring drive took only 85 seconds, and gave the Patriots a 17-7 lead at halftime. James Island kicked off to start the second half, but the Patriots were forced to punt. The Trojans once again drove down into scoring range, but Laurez Mathews put the game away for the Patrios when he intercepted a pass in the endzone and took it to the house. The 100 yard Matthews interception return gave the Patriots a 24-7 lead with 6:38 left in the third period. After another 3 and out for james Island, the Patriots drove into scoring position, but Josh Hall missed a long field goal. Another 3 and out gave the Patriots good field position at the Trojan's 40 yard line. On the second play of the series, Michael Sellers broke through the line for a 33 yard gain which gave the Fort first and goal at the 6 yard line. Sellers ran the ball in on the next play for the score, increasing the Patriot lead to 31-7. James Island managed one last scoring drive late in the game. Fort Dorchester scored again in the last minute when reserve QB Bradley Frasier scampered into the endzone from 21 yards with 39 seconds left on the clock. Michael Sellers led the offense in total yards and scoring with 163 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns. Ethan Long was 11 for 16 passing for 148 yards and one interception. The leading receiver was Aquino Spann with 6 catches for 74 yards. Antonio Guy led the Fort defense with 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks. In addition to the interception by Matthews, Justin Gaillard intercepted a pass to give the Patriots two turnovers in the game. The Fort defense recorded 5 sacks, 2.5 by Guy, 1.5 by Montae Adams, and half a sack each by Brian Williams and Geno Porter.

Fort blanks West Ashley 46-0
Friday October 16, 2009

After a soaking rain, the field was muddy and wet, which suited the Patriots just fine. With a strong running attack and lights out defense, the Fort handed the West Ashley Wildcats their fifth loss in a row, and picked up another shutout. The Patriots returned the opening kickoff to the 28 yard line, then went 72 yards in 11 plays, capped by a 5 yard TD run by Michael Sellers. Sellers carried the ball on six of the eleven plays for 45 yards, as the Patriots only threw two passes. One was a 14 yard completion from Ethan Long to Shane Garrett on 3rd and 13 to keep the drive alive. The slippery field proved to be a problem for the kicking game, as the extra point kick was low and bounced off the crossbar no good. West Ashley came roaring back on their first posession, marching all the way down the field to the 9 yard line. But the drive ended when Justin Gailard picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it for another Fort Dorchester touchdown. The two-point conversion failed. The Wildcats would not put together another sustained drive for the remainder of the game. On their next possesion, the Patriots once again drove 73 yards ending in a 10 yard td run by Bradley Frasier. The Fort tried for another 2 points put were unable to convert. Ethan Long's only pass on that drive was a third down conversion to Terrell Brown that netted 22 yards. Frasier also had a 27 yard run to set up the scoring play. After West Ashley went 3 and out, the Fort scored again on a 59 yard drive, highlighted by a 13 yard run on 4th and 8 by Sellers. Sellers scored on a 17 yard run a few plays later. Josh Hall nailed the extra point, and the score at halftime was 25-0. The Patriots had over 140 rushing yards in the first half. The Patriots kicked off in the second half, but the defense held West Ashley to six yards in three plays and forced the punt. The Fort put together a 57 yard drive, capped by a 6 yard td run by Michael Young. Long completed an 18 yard pass to Laurez Mathews on 4th and 15 to keep the drive going. The kick was good, and the Patriots led 32-0. Things went from bad to worse for West Ashley. After moving the ball out to the 46 yard line, a holding penalty and a tackle for a 3 yard loss left the Cats with 4th and 21 from their own 35. A high snap went over the punter's head and Fort Dorchester recovered on the 12 yard line. The Patriots lost 3 yards on a screen pass, but then Ja'son Bradley ran for 15 yards on two carries to score the Patriots 7th TD of the night. The next Fort Dorchester score was set up by a Geno Porter interception returned to the one yard line. Bradley Frasier ran the ball in for the final score of the game. Michael Sellers led the offense in total yards and scoring with 99 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. Ethan Long was 4 for 8 passing for 69 yards. Six different receivers caught one pass each. The leading receiver was Terrell Brown with one grab for 22 yards. Montae Adams led the Fort defense in tackles with 10. In addition to the interceptions by Porter and Gailard, Ashley Braecklien recovered a fumble to give the Patriots three total turnovers. The Fort defense recorded 3 sacks, one by Rashad Taylor and two by Keshon Flores

FDHS gets second shutout of the season vs Stratford 10-0
Friday October 9, 2009

In another defensive battle, the Fort defeated the Stratford Knights 10-0 for their second shutout of the 2009 campaign. The Patriots opened the scoring with a Josh Hall field goal in the first period. Keshon Flores added a TD in the second with an impressive 41 yard run after a short pass reception. That would be the last score for the Patriots, but would be enough as the Fort hung on to the 10-0 halftime lead. The Knights managed to cross mid-field a few times, and were within scoring range once in the 3rd quarter. The drive ended when Miguell Quinn blocked a 24 yard field goal attempt. Keshon Flores picked up the blocked fumble and returned it to the FDHS 40 yard line to once again give the Fort excellent field position. Ethan Long led the offense in total yards, completing 8 passes in 12 attempts for 88 yards and a TD. Almost half of the Fort's passing yardage came on the 41 yard TD pass to Flores, who lead the team in receiving with the single catch. Laurez Matthews was Long's favorite target with 3 receptions for 23 yards. The Patriot's leading rusher was Michael Sellers who gained 76 yards on 16 carries. Antonio Guy led the Fort defense in tackles with 9. Quinn contributed another 8 tackles, 2 pass breackups and the blocked field goal. Tyler Walker also had a big night with 6 tackles, 6 pass breakups, and 1 interception. Odell Funicelli added another fumble recovery to bring the Patriots total turnovers to three. The Fort defense also recorded 2 sacks, one by Brian Williams and one by Geno Porter for a 14 yard loss.

Patriots hold on to defeat Cougars 34-28 at homecoming
Friday October 2, 2009

Fort Dorchester got the early lead against Colleton County tonight, leading 14-0 at halftime on two one yard TD runs by Keeshon Flores and Michael Sellers. The Cougars scored first in the second half, but the Patriots answered soon after when Geno Porter recovered a fumble and returned it 48 yards for a TD. Minutes later, the Fort added another score on an Ethan Long 21 yard TD pass to Rodney Gibbs to extend the lead to 27-7. Colleton County tried to rally with a late 3rd quarter score and two TDs in the fourth, but it proved not to be enough. The Patriots completed their scoring with a 4 yard Michael Sellers TD run early in the fourth quarter. The Cougars could not overcome their 13 penalties for 111 yards, including four for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ethan Long led the offense, completing 12 passes in 20 attempts for 120 yards and a TD. Long completed passes to seven different receivers in the game. The leading rusher was Michael Sellers with 39 yards on 12 carries. The leading receiver was Rodney Gibbs who caught 3 passes for 39 yards and a TD. Kevin Geddis led the defense with 10 tackles, including half a sack and 2 tackles in the backfield for a combined 9.5 yard loss. The patriots ended up with 7 sacks on defense, two each by Antonio Guy and Montae Adams, 1.5 by Brian Williams, and .5 by Geddis, Bradley Jefferson, and Odell Funicelli.

Fort shuts out Goose Creek 18-0
Friday September 25, 2009

The Gators found out tonight that sometimes the best offense is a good defense, as neither team scored on offense but the Fort came away with the victory. Justin Gaillard returned the opening kickoff 78 yards to the Gator's 10 yard line to set up the first of four Josh Hall field goals. The Patriot D scored the only TD of the game on a 20 yard interception return by Tyler Walker in the 2nd quarter. The Fort Defense added three fumble recoveries, and the resulting excellent field position allowed the Patriots to add three more field goals. Hall was 4-4 kicking field goals, his longest 35 yards, and was the games leading scorer. Michael Sellers led the offense with 91 yards rushing on 16 carries. Odell Funicelli led the defense with 17 tackles.

Fort loses in slugfest at Beaufort 22-17
Friday September 11, 2009

The Patriots put up a valiant effort, but fell short as the Eagles squeaked out a 5 point victory. Fort Dorchester led in nearly every statistical category, but could not overcome a 6-2 turnover differential. The turnovers, along with a questionable call resulting in a safety on a punt return, made enough of a difference to keep the Patriots from winning the game. Fort Dorchester (2-1) will face rival Summerville (2-1) next Friday. Summerville lost this week to Irmo, who was defeated by Fort Dorchester last week.

Patriots defeat Yellow Jackets 19-14
Friday September 4, 2009

In the the first home game of the 2009 campaign, the Fort faced a talented Irmo team. The Patriot defense stopped Irmo on their first two possessions without allowing a first down. The offense responded with a 42 yard Josh Hall field goal and a TD pass to put the Fort up 10-0 early. With some help from the officials, and perhaps an over zealous defense, the Jackets managed to get a TD. Hall added another field goal to make the score 13-7 at the half. Another penalty aided TD drive in the third quarter put Irmo ahead 14-13, but the Patriots weren't done yet. The Patriots scored, but missed the 2-point conversion. It would prove to be enough, however, as the defense shut down Irmo in the second half to make the final score 19-14.

Varsity wins season opener in overtime
Friday August 28, 2009

Fort Dorchester football continued its winning ways tonight as the Varsity defeated Greenville in overtime 25-18. The Fort took the early lead with a Josh Hall field goal in the first period. The Red Raiders answered with a TD, and momentum swung back and forth with several lead changes in the game. Late in the 4th quarter, the Patriots were down by 3. The Fort drove deep into Raider territory and tied the game on another Hall field goal as time expired. Greenville won the toss in overtime and elected to go on defense. Fort Dorchester scored a TD on their first possesion to take a 7 point lead. The Patriot defense was able to stop the Raiders on four attempts to seal the victory.

Thursday August 27, 2009

The B-Team kicked off the 2009 campaign for the Patriots tonight at Bagwell stadium, taking on James Island. The Fort came out hot, dominating both sides of the ball, and taking a 21-0 lead in a first quarter where the ball never crossed the 50 yard line. After the opening period, the two teams engaged in a defensive battle for the rest of the game, ending with a 21-8 victory for the Patriots.

The JV Patriots met the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes for the first time ever tonight. The game was close, with a lot of great plays on both sides of the ball. The Fort was able to get an early lead, scoring on a long pass on the second play of the game, and hung on for the 14-6 victory.
