Patriots and Knights have met 10 times in the past, and Stratford leads
the series nine games to one. The lone Patriot win came in the 2001
season. The Pats held on for a 26-23 win at Bagwell Stadium.
The
Knights have won the last four meetings however, last season was close
with Stratford escaping with a 14-10 win at the Fort.
The
Patriots are 0-5 at Bonds stadium. But the Patriots are riding a five
game winning streak to start the 2006 season. Stratford is coming off a
21-0 loss to Summerville last week.
This
game will be a key match-up for the Patriots to keep their winning
streak alive and to move higher in the Top 10 polls. Stratford will be
looking to avenge last week's loss.
This
will be the final non-region game for the 2006 season. The Patriots
will open region play next week when they host Beaufort. The top three
teams in region play will advance to the AAAA playoffs.

Second Half Rally
Surges Patriots Over Stags;
Varsity pulls out 25-13 wins on the road . . .
Monday, September 4, 2006
Trailing
13-6 after one half of play, the Fort Dorchester Patriots put together
a strong second half of football to defeat Berkeley on the road, 25-13
Friday night.
The
Patriots (2-0) outscored the Stags 19-0 in the second half to beat
Berkeley 25-13 giving the Patriots their second win of the season. The
loss drops the Stags to 0-2.
Fort
Dorchester, having seen two years of close and frustrating losses,
defeated Berkeley snapping a two game losing streak to the Berkeley
County School. Berkeley had won the last two meetings, both in
overtime, to take a 6-4 lead in the series. However, the win Friday
night gives the Patriots a 2-0 start to the 2006 season and the first
2-0 start since the 2000 season.
The
Patriots defense limited Berkeley to just 10 yards of offense in the
second half led by the defensive end tandem ofRobert Quinn
andCarlos Dunlap. Both reeked havoc in the
Berkeley backfield accounting for numerous sacks and tackles for loss
in the half.
Offensively,
the Patriots got things uncorked in the second half scoring three
touchdowns. Senior tailbackDerrick Middleton
accounted for two TD's scoring from 20 and 1 yards.Justin
Birch scored on a 15 yard pass from Sophomore quarterbackGalen
Bennett.
Middleton,
who scored three touchdowns in the game, opened the Patriots scoring
attack in the second quarter on a 9-yard scamper.
Berkeley
opened the game on two early scores, aNick Orvin
22 yard pass toThomas Brittle. Berkeley also had
two first half field goals (21 and 32 yards) for their scoring.
Bennett,
his second good game at quarterback for the Patriots, finished the game
on 10-of-13 passing for 135 yards and a touchdown. He also added 48
yards on the ground showing his diversity in handling the Patriots
offense.
The
Patriots will play their home opener of the season when they take on
the James Island Trojans Friday night at Bagwell Stadium. Game time is
set for 7:30 pm.
